I totally understand your concern about if she’s learning anything. Even with Aidan, my non-autistic son, I wondered that when he was in Kindergarten. But then, I still wonder, and he’s 13 now! I guess it never really ends *sigh*

If it helps any–and probably it doesn’t–none of my children can tell me anything about what anyone else around them has done during the school day. Dubya still doesn’t know the names of half the people in his class of 20 children.

I’d far rather watch a child acting silly than a teacher, and I’m 41.

Sounds like it’s going to be fine…we’ve never had bombs dropped on us in parent-teacher conferences. Those come at other times, by email, usually.

it’s just a scary thing, getting feedback from someone who sees her a lot, in different situations, in a highly social environment. sounds like everything is going to go extremely well…it’s always nice reading about her progress (i remember the photos from last year, with her in line with the other kids). still, there’s no way around the anxiety of it. i think instead of “parent/teacher conferences” they should have “parent/teacher wine tastings”…something to kep the tone mellow. i may copyright that idea.

On another part of your post – I did want to say the paying attention to other kids is like Bizzao-world for ASD( if you have not seen the Seinfield episode – what I mean is that its the opposite of ASD )

Good luck tomorrow, sounds like she’s doing just fine..and, yes, I have known lots of NT kids (all girls!) who knew what everybody did at Centers, what X said to Y, which teacher was absent (in a different grade)! It’s always amazing to me, but probably something to worry overmuch about. Can’t wait to hear.

Trouble focusing is one of Danny’s issues, too. His teacher mentioned this the other week at his conference, but she was quick to point out that Danny was by no means the only kindergartener in her class with this difficulty.

Aw, that is so sweet! I love when they show love like that to siblings. We have way too much fighting around here lately, but twice now Danny has tried really hard to cheer Charlotte up when she’s upset. Just today, he suggested we pray so she would recover from her little meltdown.

The pregnancy analogy and listening for the heartbeat stopped me in my tracks. Hated those appts.

Sending you big hugs to get through your conference. I’ve never been through one (yet), but I’ve experienced seeing my child completely undone in pre-k.
